WAXING LYRICAL

Just got the new album from Casting Crowns. It's  called 'come to the well' and I highly recommend it. One of my favourite songs off the album has been resonating deeply with me and I just had to share it with you folks. It's called City On The Hill. Enjoy  :) Did you hear of the city on the hill? Said one old man to the other It once shined bright and it would be shining still But they all started turning on each other You see, the poets thought the dancers were shallow And the soldiers thought the poets were weak And the elders saw the young ones as foolish And the rich man never heard the poor man speak And one by one, they ran away With their made-up minds to leave it all behind And the light began to fade in the city on a hill The city on a hill Each one thought that they knew better But they were different by design Instead of standing strong together They let their differences divide An...

PEEVED AT EVE

Was driving along today and decided to turn on the radio, which is a rare thing for me cos I prefer to play my own music so I know exactly what to expect. So anyway, was listening to the radio and Implication by 2Face came on. Apart from it's catchy beat, it also has a somewhat clever chorus. Translated from Idoma (the tribe in Benue State that ISN'T tiv) it literally says, "she ate, she ate, she gave her husband to eat..." basically talking about Adam and Eve as the ultimate illustration of Implication (you know, as in Eve implicated Adam, etc). You know the song, you love the song, but it got me musing. Why are we always so quick to condemn poor eve? Just what did we expect her to do? Bear with me a while, let me make a point here. Eve was the first woman. Lovely, nuturing, maternal, caring, selfless woman. She wasn't the one whom God gave the instruction about the 'forbidden fruit' (which has NEVER been described as an APPLE, by the way, in any Bib...

NEWS BLUES :(

So, was watching news tonight and I couldn’t help but get riled up. Then I got riled up some more. Then I got really exasperated. Then I simply changed the channel. Nothing new really, just the same old sick cycle carousel that our (formerly?) great nation seems to be glued on. And talking of the ‘greatness’ of our nation, didn’t we used to be called the “GIANT OF AFRICA”? But that’s a whole different musing. Anyway, back to tonight’s news. Riled up part one – the recurring debate about removal of fuel subsidy. Why? Why?! Please spare me the ridiculous mantra about the inability of our economy to sustain the payments. If they were really serious about recouping funds for the federal coffers the first and most moral place to start would be to slash the obscene, diabolical and hideously immoral pay packets our legislators cart home. There, problem solved. Wasn’t that simple? If only we could see the development our taxes etc are supposed to...
